Grievance Procedure
Should you have a complaint about a disciplinary action in your work place, or should you feel that you have been treated unfairly or in contravention of any Diocesan policy or any individual Agreement or Contract you may have, you should promptly inform your immediate supervisor. If the matter is not remediated to your satisfaction, we encourage you to contact the Director of Human Resources, Reina Rivas at 973-551-09227 or email [email protected].
If the matter is not satisfactorily resolved within ten (10) working days, or longer if the circumstances so require, you may file a written complaint with the CEO of Catholic Charities. The CEO or designee will meet with you in an attempt to work out the problem, and may investigate the matter with other people who may be involved. You will be advised of the CEO’s determination within ten (10) working days of receipt of your written complaint unless circumstances require an extension of time for responding, in which case you shall be so advised.
If you are still not satisfied, you may submit the complaint in writing to the Chancellor within five (5) working days of receipt of the CEO's determination. The decision of the Chancellor will be rendered within ten (10) working days of receipt of your written complaint unless circumstances require an extension of time for responding, in which case you shall be so advised. The Chancellor’s decision will be final and binding on all parties.
The above grievance procedure is the sole and exclusive method for determining any and all disputes arising to your conditions of employment and any disciplinary or termination action, except where a statute explicitly provided to the contrary. No court action may be taken as an alternative to or as an appeal from the grievance procedure. Your commencing and/or continuing your employment with the diocese shall be considered acceptance of this grievance procedure as final and binding as set forth above.
The grievance procedure outlined above is not intended to alter the At-Will-Status Policy.
